Courses
Courses in Hyzeer are made and kept up to date by the players, like a wiki. Anyone can add a course, fix a par or add a new tee, and every change is kept in the course's history.
Find a course
Open the Courses tab and type at least 3 letters of the name; small typos are fine. Before you type, the list shows one of three views:
- Recent: courses you opened or played.
- Near me: every course by distance. Hyzeer asks for your location first; without it you can still search by name.
- Saved for offline: the courses on your phone.
Every course you open is saved on your phone, so you can find it and start a game on it without signal. To be sure before a trip, open the course's ⋯ menu and tap Save for offline; Remove from saved takes it off again.
Each card shows the course's photo, holes and par, how far it is, and open public games there. Play starts a game; tapping the card opens the course page.
The course page
- Overview: the map, the info (location, description, details such as fees or parking), the layouts, and your best score on each layout.
- Holes: every hole with par and distance, and your best score on it.
- Games: games played on the course. See Sharing, public games and profiles.
- Photos: see Course photos.
- History: every change to the course, who made it and when (needs a connection).
A layout is a set of holes in order, e.g. "Main", "Long tees" or "Winter 9". The primary layout is chosen for new games; you can choose another one, or change the holes, when you start a game.
A course that was closed, entered twice or removed says so at the top, and isn't shown in search.
Create a course
On the Courses tab, tap Create a course.
- Type the name.
- Stand on the course and tap Use my location, or type the latitude and longitude.
- Check the country, set the number of holes and the par of each hole (all par 3 by default: change only what differs). Distances and a description are optional.
- Tap Create course.
If there is already a course within 1 km, Hyzeer shows it first (Is it one of these?), so the same course isn't added twice. Tap it to open it, or No, create a new course.
A new course has a tee and a basket for every hole and one layout, Main, and everyone can use it at once. Creating a course needs a connection.
Edit a course
In the course's ⋯ menu:
- Edit info and details: the name, location, description and details such as "Free to play". Saved at once.
- Edit holes and layouts: tees, baskets, holes and layouts. These changes go into your draft first, which only you see, so you can make several changes and publish them together.
In the draft you can:
- add, rename or remove tees and baskets (e.g. "3L" for a long tee), with a position and a note,
- add holes (a tee and a basket), set their par and distance, or Replace hole to connect another tee or basket,
- add and edit layouts: the holes in order, and which layout is primary.
Removing a tee or basket also removes its holes; the app says which holes and layouts that affects. A bar at the bottom shows how many changes you have. Tap Review to see each change with its old and new value, undo single ones, add a note (e.g. "Added long tees on 3, 7 and 12") and Publish. Discard draft throws all your changes away.
- Your draft stays on your phone until you publish it, also if you close the app. A draft older than 30 days is discarded, with a reminder on the course page first.
- Someone else published first? If they changed the same thing, the review shows both values and you choose which to keep.
- Games already created keep their holes. A new course version is made when tees, baskets or holes change; changing only layouts keeps the version.
- Your best scores on a hole carry on as long as it is the same tee and basket. If a basket really moved (you say so when its position changes by more than 20 m), the hole starts again.
Editing courses needs a connection. Removed things are never really deleted: they stay in the history and in old games.
Course map
The Overview tab of a course page has a satellite map of the course: tees as squares, baskets as circles, and a line for every hole with the tee's name. Tap a hole to see tee → basket, par and distance. Tap Show me to see where you are; Hyzeer asks for your location first. The map shows the area up to 2 km around the course.
Without a connection there are no satellite photos, but tees, baskets and holes are still drawn.
Add a position
Tees and baskets without a position are listed below the map. Stand on the tee or next to the basket and tap Use my position. The position is saved for everyone right away, and the hole's distance is calculated when both ends have a position. To correct a position, tap the tee or basket on the map, then Use my position. If it moved more than 20 m, Hyzeer asks whether it is a new position or the old one was wrong.
If you have unpublished changes to the course, the position goes into them instead; publish them when you are done.
The map while you play
On the scoring screen, tap Map to see this game's holes, numbered in the game's order. The hole you are on is highlighted, holes you scored are solid lines and the others dashed. In Advanced scoring your marked throws are on the map too. Tap a hole and then Go to hole N, or tap a hole in the list below the map.
Course photos
Photos show other players what a course looks like before they go. They are at the top of the course page and on the course cards in search and on the home screen; the first photo added is the cover. Swipe sideways to see the others.
- Add a photo: on the course page, tap Add the first photo, or open the Photos tab and tap Add a photo. Choose a photo, then drag and zoom it inside the frame: every course photo is landscape, 4:3. Tap Add photo. JPEG, PNG and HEIC photos up to 15 MB work.
- The location and camera data in the photo file are removed before it is saved.
- Photos can be added to open courses only, and need a connection. They aren't saved on the phone for offline use.
- Tap a photo to see it full screen, with who added it and when.
- Delete a photo you added from the full-screen view. You can't delete other players' photos.
- Report a photo that is inappropriate or not of this course from the full-screen view: tap Report photo, then Send report. A reason is optional. The Hyzeer team checks it.
Adding and removing photos is listed in the course's History. You can add up to 20 photos a day.
